Spain is giving American guard Nya Bostic the chance most clubs would not. Two weeks into the EuroProBasket Women’s Professional Program in Valencia, the former Florida A&M guard earned a tryout with a team in Murcia and a real shot at women’s basketball in Spain, after a 2025-26 season without an official game.
From Decatur to NCAA Division I
Bostic is a 5’8″ guard from Decatur, Georgia, who played her high school basketball at Southwest DeKalb. She started college at Tallahassee Community College, now Tallahassee State College, playing two NJCAA seasons in the Panhandle Conference. As a freshman she led the Eagles with eight rebounds in a game against Gulf Coast State, a guard doing a forward’s work on the glass.
That toughness earned her a scholarship to Florida A&M University in the SWAC, where she played two NCAA Division I seasons and appeared in 16 games each year. She broke her hand during her first season in Tallahassee and needed surgery, then came back to finish the year. In 211 minutes that season she pulled down 27 rebounds, 21 of them on the defensive end.
For 2025-26 she joined the University of Alaska Fairbanks in NCAA Division II as a graduate student working toward her MBA. Alaska Fairbanks brought her in as an experienced guard known for toughness and physical presence. The season ended without an official game on her record.
The Résumé Gap That Stops Most Players
Most clubs scouting American players start in the same place: last season. A blank year usually ends the conversation before anyone watches a single possession, because there is no current film and no current stat line to judge.
It is one of the most common reasons good players get overlooked, and it says nothing about whether they can still play. That was the wall in front of Bostic this summer.
Two Weeks of Competitive Film in Valencia
Bostic came to Valencia in September 2026 to change that. In the Women’s Professional Program she was back in competitive games from the first week, and every one of them was recorded.
The film shows a strong, physical guard who plays through contact and goes to the floor for loose balls. She handles the ball well under pressure and finishes strong at the rim. For a coach, that is a guard who wins effort plays and keeps putting pressure on the basket.
Women’s Basketball in Spain, Starting in Murcia
That updated game film, backed by a recommendation from the EuroProBasket staff who coached her every day, is what a club in Murcia evaluated. The club looked past the gap and invited her to try out during the Copa Federación, the preseason tournament run by the Federación de Baloncesto de la Región de Murcia ahead of the 2026-27 season. She left Valencia after her second week in the program to take it.
Spain is one of the strongest women’s basketball countries in the world. Its national team took bronze at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, and roster spots across the Spanish system are contested by players from the United States, Africa and across Europe.
