Four EuroProBasket players have earned a basketball tryout in Spain, with a club in Valencia that has real backing behind it and open ambitions to climb the Spanish system. Kota Igarashi, Sohan Riedel-Bonnin, Trystan Donnay and Oskar Filipowski all got the invitation roughly a month into the 2026-27 program.
The four players
Kota Igarashi, point guard, Japan. Igarashi arrived from Maebashi Ikuei High School with a decorated junior résumé: the Tokyo All-Star team in 2022-23, a place among the top five players in Tokyo in 2022, and a prefectural All-Star selection in 2023-24. In his first EuroProBasket games he averaged 3.8 assists in 22 minutes and shot 40% from three. He plays with pace, he gets downhill, and he makes the second pass before the defense resets.
Sohan Riedel-Bonnin, guard, Canada. Riedel-Bonnin captained the Senior AAA team at École Mathieu-Martin in Dieppe, New Brunswick, averaging around 30 points in his final season after 27 the year before. He was twice named the school’s Player of the Year and made the New Brunswick Senior AAA All-Star team in 2025. He shoots 38% from three and 82% from the line, and he passes at roughly seven assists a game. Basketball New Brunswick carried him in its provincial Top 20 from U14 all the way through U18.
Trystan Donnay, point guard, Belgium. Donnay came out of RSW Liège Basket, where he spent the 2025-26 season playing men’s R2A basketball at 17 on one of the youngest rosters in the division. He scored 15 against Woluwé in January and 11 in a 70-65 derby win in February, then dropped 24 on Maffle, a side chasing the R2A title, in a game Liège lost by four after trailing by 14 at the break. Belgian coverage had him playing three games a weekend and training every day on top of it.
Oskar Filipowski, forward, USA. Filipowski is the size in this group at 6’4″. He is a California player who worked his way up from freshman to junior varsity to three varsity seasons, with AAU summers at NorCal Elite and West Coast Elite.
What they have done in Valencia
None of them has been here long. They train twice a day at L’Alqueria del Basket under FIBA-certified European coaches, and the games they play are professionally recorded. Igarashi already has four of those games on film.
Riedel-Bonnin, Donnay and Filipowski came in on the University Prep track, a gap year built around minutes, film and university exposure. Igarashi came in on the Euro Professional Program. None of them expected a club call this early.
What does a basketball tryout in Spain actually mean?
A tryout is an invitation, not a contract. A Spanish club brings players in to see whether they fit the roster, the system and the level, and the player has to prove it in the gym. Spain is one of the deepest basketball countries in the world, which is exactly why a roster spot anywhere in that system is hard to earn, and exactly why the invitation is worth something.
The tryout
The club has a project behind it and has been open about wanting to move up the Spanish ranks. That is the kind of environment where minutes go to players who produce, and where production moves you up the system rather than parking you in it.
