Benjamin Scott: Bridging the Gap from Recreational Play to the Spanish Pros

Benjamin Scott, a 6’1 Shooting Guard from Jean-de-Brébeuf High School has officially signed with a basketball club in Murcia, Spain for the remainder of the 2025-26 season! This signing marks a pivotal milestone in Benjamin’s career, providing him the opportunity to compete with both the first and second teams. Notably, the club’s top team competes in Tercera FEB, a high-level league that typically commands players with solid NCAA or professional experience.

From Canadian High School to Spanish Courts

Benjamin’s journey is far from traditional. After finishing at Jean-de-Brébeuf High School, he faced a hurdle that stops many aspiring players: a lack of collegiate experience. For years, Benjamin stayed active in recreational leagues in Canada, but the dream of playing overseas seemed out of reach without a professional platform or game film.

“I’m proud of my story,” Benjamin says. “Without playing for a while after high school, I went from playing recreational basketball in Canada to being signed in Spain.” However, he acknowledges that the jump was significant. “My lack of experience affected my credibility and my game. These are things I was never confronted with while playing recreational basketball.”

The EuroProBasket Catalyst

To bridge the gap between “rec” ball and the pros, Benjamin joined the EuroProBasket Euro Professional Program in 2025. In just a few weeks, the program provided the structure he lacked. The results were immediate; Benjamin dominated the court, adapting to the European system while honing his skills with professional coaches and trainers.

“The coaches gave me a structure to train in, while the environment brought competition,” Benjamin notes. “That allowed me to solely focus on my effort, and that’s what allowed those game results.” Beyond the scoring, the program served as a crash course in European tactics. He learned quickly that basketball wasn’t played one-on-one and that high intensity and ball movement are how advantages are created.

A New Chapter in Murcia

Now in Murcia, Benjamin is embracing the challenge of the Tercera FEB level. While his initial goal of joining a team in Spain has been achieved, he remains focused on the work ahead. “I’m surrounded by lots of experienced and talented players that I can learn from. The level of play and intensity will really push me to my limits.”

Benjamin’s advice for players without a college resume is simple but powerful: “You need to be clear in your goal, not be afraid to affirm that you want it, and take your training seriously, as a professional would, even though you’re not there yet.”

Congratulations, Benjamin! We are proud to have been the bridge to your professional career.
