EuroProBasket is proud to announce that recent academy participant Paul-Jose “PJ” Wong has successfully committed to Cardiff Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. Wong has joined the university’s basketball program, the Archers, while simultaneously pursuing a Master’s Degree, marking a significant step forward in his career both on and off the court.
Wong’s move to the UK highlights the unique opportunities provided by the EuroProBasket Euro Professional Program. This program is designed not only to place players in professional leagues throughout Europe but also to facilitate educational pathways that secure a player’s future beyond athletics.
By committing to Cardiff Met, Wong is taking full advantage of a scholarship opportunity that allows him to compete at a high level in the British university system while obtaining a valuable postgraduate qualification. This placement perfectly aligns with the EuroProBasket philosophy of preparing athletes for professional careers on the court, as well as professional stability off of it.
A 6’0″ (184cm) shooting guard and point guard , Wong arrived at EuroProBasket following his time with the Pacific University club team (2021-2023). During his tenure with the club team, he averaged 6.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Seeking to elevate his game and find opportunities overseas, Wong joined the EuroProBasket Academy in August 2024. During his development phase at the academy, he demonstrated his efficiency and defensive hustle, averaging 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 40% from the three-point line in just 15 minutes of play.
His hard work at the academy in Valencia prepared him for the transition to European basketball, culminating in his recruitment by Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Wong has wasted no time making his presence felt in the UK. Wearing jersey #13 for the Cardiff Metropolitan University Archers, he has already delivered a breakout performance early in the season.
In just his third game of the season against the Tribal Hunters, Wong put on a masterclass in scoring and efficiency. Playing 35 minutes, he earned MVP of the game honors with a dominant stat line:
